The Sounds of Mid-America Inc is a nonprofit museum founded to recognize, celebrate and preserve the diverse music community of Middle America by providing ongoing:

Education -- to provide educational opportunities for people of all ages and cultures to learn about Mid-America’s musical forms via mentoring, songwriting and other music instruction, intimate performances, Q & A’s, film and sound recordings etc.

Archives -- to promote the collection, preservation and display of musical artifacts reflecting contributions of Mid-Americans to music and musical culture.

Research -- to conduct and support scholarly research and publishing in the arts and humanities as it relates to the history of Mid-America’s musical forms.

Events -- to recognize the cultural contributions of the sounds of Mid-America as created by musical artists, music-focused enterprises and others such as media outlets/personalities, venues, schools and various support personnel who have had a harmonious effect on the lives of people world wide via awards ceremonies/tributes, family friendly events and special performances.

Resource Center -- to address the issue of services (healthcare, housing and so forth) for musicians in need.

Souvenir Shop –- to provide a source for artists to sell their written word, visuals and sound recordings to the public, as well as the sale of SOMA merchandise.

Music has the power to unite generations, nationalities and cultures together via the heartbeat of the universe.

While highlighting everyone from the Andrew Sisters & Lawrence Welk to Eddie Cochran & Bob Dylan to the Trashmen & Crow to Prince & the Replacements to the many noteworthy classical and indigenous folk cultures to numerous jazz and blues artists, the Sounds of Mid-America will be a truly unique destination… a place patrons will frequent often and visitors will note as a “must see” whenever they come to Minneapolis!
