The Band Box Diner
The Band Box has been a favorite Elliot Park establishment since 1939. On August 5, 2003 owner Brad Ptacek and EPNI teamed up to host the grand re-opening with a street dance featuring many local artists. The lineup included The Magnolias, Valet, We Know - Do You?, Suffuse, Plastic Constellations, Miss Lonely Hearts, Lonnie Knight, Romantica, Dan Case & Crash Collision Trio, Mike Gunther and Brad's own jug band, The World's Fattest Twins. The music started outside at about 2 PM and filled the Elliot Park Neighborhood with sound until after 10 PM. Then the celebration was topped off with some acoustic music inside the Band Box.
The Band Box Grand Re-Opening was scheduled to coincide with Elliot Park's participation in National Night Out. The entire neighborhood joined the Minneapolis Police Force in an evening of unity. Even "Top Cop" Inspector Allan stopped down to enjoy the music.
